Emotional intelligence and attentional bias to emotional faces: Evidence of hypersensitivity towards emotion information

چکیده

It has been proposed that emotional intelligence (EI) functions as a magnifier of experience. This phenomenon, called the “hypersensitivity hypothesis,” predicts high EI amplifies aspects experience ( Fiori & Ortony, 2021 ). We tested whether individuals show stronger attention to than neutral expressions with dot-probe task in which participants N = 155) had report letter appearing behind an or face. A significant interaction by experimental condition showed attentional bias towards faces associated EI: on emotion understanding were faster respond cues replacing compared face, effect was not found for low-EI individuals. Results support are particularly reactive information, confirming basic assumptions hypersensitivity hypothesis. Implications research discussed.

Age-related differences in attentional bias for emotional faces.

Past research suggests an aging-related positivity effect in orienting to faces. However, these studies have eschewed direct comparison of orienting when positive and negative faces are presented simultaneously, thereby potentially underestimating the degree to which emotional valence influences such effects. In the current study younger and older adults viewed face pairs for 1000 ms, and upon ...

Attentional Bias for Emotional Information in Older Adults: The Role of Emotion and Future Time Perspective

OBJECTIVES Research suggests that older adults display a positivity bias at the level of information processing. However, because studies investigating attentional bias for emotional information in older adults have produced mixed findings, research identifying inter-individual differences that may explain these inconsistent results is necessary. Therefore, we investigated whether mood, symptom...

Aging and attentional biases for emotional faces.

We examined age differences in attention to and memory for faces expressing sadness, anger, and happiness. Participants saw a pair of faces, one emotional and one neutral, and then a dot probe that appeared in the location of one of the faces. In two experiments, older adults responded faster to the dot if it was presented on the same side as a neutral face than if it was presented on the same ...

Attentional Bias for Threat: Evidence for Delayed Disengagement from Emotional Faces.

The present paper reports three new experiments suggesting that the valence of a face cue can influence attentional effects in a cueing paradigm. Moreover, heightened trait anxiety resulted in increased attentional dwell-time on emotional facial stimuli, relative to neutral faces. Experiment 1 presented a cueing task, in which the cue was either an "angry", "happy", or "neutral" facial expressi...

Social exclusion leads to attentional bias to emotional social information: Evidence from eye movement

Social exclusion has many effects on individuals, including the increased need to belong and elevated sensitivity to social information. Using a self-reporting method, and an eye-tracking technique, this study explored people's need to belong and attentional bias towards the socio-emotional information (pictures of positive and negative facial expressions compared to those of emotionally-neutra...
